Melamine Finish / Melamine Faced Board

Melamine finish, also commonly used in melamine faced boards, is a pre-finished decorative surface widely used in custom cabinetry and panel furniture. It is usually made by pressing impregnated decorative paper onto particle board, MDF or plywood under heat and pressure. The surface can present wood grain, solid color, stone pattern, fabric texture and other decorative effects. Compared with paint finish or wood veneer finish, melamine finish is easier to manage in terms of cost control, color consistency, batch production efficiency and daily cleaning. It is suitable for standardized cabinetry, project-based custom cabinets and residential, commercial or hotel projects that require efficient delivery. Its actual performance depends on substrate quality, decorative paper grade, lamination process, edge sealing, cut-out sealing and the final application environment. When used for kitchens, bathroom vanities or sink cabinets, edge areas, drilling holes and cut-outs should be carefully sealed to reduce the risk of moisture-related problems.

Materials Detail

Visual Effect

Available in wood grain, solid color, fabric texture, stone pattern and other effects. It offers good batch color consistency, but the natural texture is usually not as realistic as natural wood veneer.

Suitable Substrates

Particle board, plywood, MDF

Suitable Door / Panel Forms

Flat cabinet doors, cabinet panels, shelves, side panels and simple straight-line panel structures. Not suitable for deep grooving, complex carving or large curved surface wrapping.

Suitable Applications

Wardrobe carcasses, kitchen cabinet carcasses, bookcases, TV cabinets, office cabinets, storage cabinets, standard cabinet doors, hotel fixed furniture and project-based custom cabinetry.

Not Suitable For

High-end real wood grain projects, complex shaped door panels, high-gloss painted effect projects, or long-term humid areas where edge sealing cannot be properly controlled.

Advantages

Cost-effective, available in many colors and patterns, stable surface performance and easy daily cleaning. Suitable for standardized production and batch delivery of cabinet projects.

Limitations

Limited adaptability for complex shapes. Edges depend heavily on edge sealing, and the texture is not as natural as wood veneer or paint finish. If edges, drilling holes or cut-outs are not properly sealed, moisture may affect the stability of the substrate.

Key Notes

Check decorative paper quality, lamination flatness, edge sealing strength, board emission grade and batch color consistency. For kitchen cabinets, sink cabinets, bathroom vanities or hotel projects, pay special attention to edge sealing, cut-out protection and moisture-prone areas.
