Oak Wood

Oak wood surface with natural grain texture

Oak Wood

Oak wood is a commonly used solid wood and veneer material in custom cabinetry and interior woodwork. It is more suitable for solid wood components, natural wood veneer and decorative surface applications, rather than being used as a standard engineered base board. Oak has clear grain, a strong natural wood texture, and common types include white oak and red oak. It is suitable for custom woodwork projects that require visible wood grain and a mid-to-high-end material appearance. Oak can be used as solid wood, or processed into natural veneer and applied over stable substrates such as plywood or MDF. Its actual performance depends on oak species, wood grade, moisture content control, panel jointing method, veneer thickness, finishing process, color treatment and the final application environment.

Materials Detail

Common Thickness

18mm, 20mm, 25mm, 30mm, 40mm

Suitable Surface Treatments

Clear coat, PU finish, open-grain finish, wood wax oil, staining, smoked treatment

Suitable Applications

Solid wood furniture, cabinet door frames, tabletops, wall panels, wine cabinets, door frames, mouldings, high-end decorative components, and veneer-finished woodwork in residential, commercial and hotel projects.

Not Suitable For

Oversized solid wood door panels, long-term humid areas, locations with large temperature changes, low-budget large-area cabinetry, or projects that cannot accept natural wood grain and color variation.

Advantages

Good hardness, clear grain and strong natural wood texture. Suitable for mid-to-high-end furniture and woodwork. White oak and red oak can meet different color and grain requirements.

Limitations

More expensive than common wood materials and relatively heavy. Large-area solid wood applications still need to consider deformation, cracking and color variation. Natural wood may also have grain and color differences between batches.

Key Notes

Oak has visible pores and is suitable for open-grain finishes. Grain direction and color variation should be controlled during panel jointing. For large door panels, frame construction or a stable substrate + oak veneer construction is recommended to reduce the risk of deformation, cracking and excessive weight. For batch projects, veneer samples, color direction, grain matching method and finishing effect should be confirmed in advance.
