Paint Finish / Lacquer Finish

Paint finish, also commonly referred to as lacquer finish or baked paint finish in some markets, is a surface coating process used for custom cabinetry and shaped cabinet doors. It is usually applied over substrates such as MDF or plywood through sanding, primer coating, top coating and curing. It is not a pre-finished laminate material like melamine or PET, and is suitable for projects that require custom colors, a unified painted surface and good visual flatness. Compared with pre-finished surfaces such as melamine and PET, paint finish offers more flexibility in color customization, surface texture and shaped door applications. Compared with wood veneer finish, it is more suitable for solid colors, modern styles, light luxury styles and simple design effects. It is also commonly used for French style, American style and moulded cabinet door projects. Its actual performance depends on substrate flatness, sanding quality, primer treatment, topcoat quality, spraying environment, curing process, color depth, gloss level and batch color control. For batch projects, color samples, gloss level, painted sample panels, packaging protection and on-site finished product protection should be confirmed in advance.

Materials Detail

Visual Effect

Uniform color and strong overall appearance. It can achieve matte, high-gloss, solid-color, opaque paint, clear wood coating or special custom color effects.

Suitable Substrates

MDF, plywood, solid wood, wood veneer panels. MDF is more commonly used for painted cabinet doors and shaped doors because of its fine surface, which is suitable for sanding and spraying.

Suitable Door / Panel Forms

Flat doors, routed doors, framed doors, French style doors, American style doors, wall panels, door frame mouldings and custom woodwork surfaces that require unified color and shaped details.

Suitable Applications

Painted cabinet doors, French style doors, American style doors, wall panels, door frames, skirting boards, hotel woodwork, high-end residential solid-color woodwork, commercial spaces, showrooms and project-based woodwork that requires custom color effects.

Not Suitable For

High-impact areas, projects with poor on-site protection, extremely low-budget projects, projects with very short delivery schedules, or projects with no tolerance for visible touch-up color difference.

Advantages

High color flexibility, suitable for shaped cabinet doors and strong overall surface effect. Color code, gloss level and surface effect can be customized according to the design requirement.

Limitations

Sensitive to impact and scratches, and touch-up repair may show color difference. It requires higher standards for spraying environment and sanding quality, and the production cycle is usually longer. Dark colors, high-gloss finishes or large-area painted surfaces require stricter control of substrate flatness, spraying environment and transportation protection.

Key Notes

Pay attention to substrate sealing, sanding details, spraying environment, color difference control and transportation / installation protection. Paint may build up in grooves or inner corners if the process is not well controlled. For batch projects, repair standards, packaging method and on-site protection requirements should be confirmed in advance.
