Teak Wood

Teak wood surface with natural grain texture

Teak Wood

Teak wood is a mid-to-high-end solid wood and veneer material commonly used in custom furniture and interior woodwork. Its color usually ranges from golden brown to dark brown, with natural grain and a relatively oily surface. It provides a warm, stable and refined wood appearance. Compared with common light-colored woods, teak usually offers better durability, dimensional stability and moisture resistance, but its actual performance still depends on wood grade, processing method and the final application environment. Teak can be used as solid wood, or processed into natural veneer and applied over stable substrates such as plywood or MDF. Its actual performance depends on wood grade, origin, moisture content control, grain matching method, veneer thickness, natural oil content, drying process, finishing process and the final application environment.

Materials Detail

Common Thickness

18mm, 20mm, 25mm, 30mm, 40mm

Suitable Surface Treatments

Wood wax oil, clear coat, outdoor oil, PU finish, semi-open finish, clear protective coating

Suitable Applications

High-end furniture, bathroom furniture, outdoor furniture, marine woodwork, high-end decorative components, moisture-related projects, and veneer-finished wall panels, decorative panels and fixed furniture in hotel, resort and commercial spaces.

Not Suitable For

Low-budget projects, spaces that require a pure light-color effect, long-term water soaking or poorly maintained environments, or projects where teak grade, origin and batch consistency cannot be confirmed.

Advantages

Good dimensional stability, good moisture and decay resistance under proper use and maintenance, and a warm, refined wood appearance. Suitable for woodwork projects that require better durability and a mid-to-high-end spatial effect.

Limitations

High cost, large differences in resource availability and wood grade, and possible confusion with substitute woods or mixed market names. Different origins, grades and batches may show noticeable differences in color, oil content, grain and stability.

Key Notes

Teak has high natural oil content, so surface preparation and finish adhesion should be carefully handled before coating. Grade, origin and authenticity should be confirmed during procurement. When used in outdoor, bathroom or humid environments, it should still be combined with proper structural design, drainage, ventilation, surface maintenance and edge protection. Teak’s moisture resistance should not be understood as long-term water soaking resistance or complete maintenance-free performance.
